MacBook6,1 with Mac OS 10.6.8.
I was trying to get ScanWizard 5 to work on this computer, fiddling with permissions on the ScanWizard folder and CFMSupport folder. Now, none of the Rosetta applications would launch, including ScanWizard.
This happens even if I log in as an administrator.
I'm in the process of downloading the 10.6.8 down to 10.6.5 updaters, attempting to reinstall. Our reinstall DVD is 10.6.4.
Any thoughts?

Actuall, I think maybe Nokia Multimedia Transfer.app killed it. Just tried that this morning.
Do any other ppc apps work?
I doubt the nokia stuff is touching /System/Library/CFMSupport. They have no business being in there.
None of the PPC apps work. :-(
I've checked the thread about Flashback causing problems. I don't seem to have Flashback...
This has nothing to do with flashback.
Just out of curiousity since you think something is wrong with CFMSupport do the following in a terminal (in Utilities). Copy/paste each line and post the results:
ls -ld /System/Library/CFMSupport
ls -l /System/Library/CFMSupport
This is what I get. I've added /Library/CFMSupport

These are the files I messed with, because ScanWizard seemed to be having trouble accessing them.
Also, I tried running LaunchCFMApp from within its Carbon directory. I get:
-bash: LaunchCFMApp: command not found
Also,

/Library/CFMSupport ???
Rename that and see if your ppc apps launch. I don't know what /Library/CFMSupport is supposed to be but it is not part of the standard ppc support. Maybe it's interfering or intercepting the real /System/Library/CFMSupport, which, by the way, looks ok with respect to what's supposed be there, ownership, and permissions.
I remember now!
1. Originally, ScanWizard would launch then give an error about not being able to access the KodakCMSC file in the /Library/CFMSupport directory
2. I did something like "chmod -Rv +rwx /Library/CFMSupport"
3. After that, ScanWizard would launch with one "bounce" on the dock then disappear. That's what all the PPC apps are doing now.
I think /Library/CFMSupport was installed by ScanWizard.
I renamed it, and still same problem. :-(
After removing that did you reboot?
Put the original disk your Mac came with in the drive and launch the Optional Software installer package. Select Rosetta and reinstall it.

I semi-removed Rosetta by doing this:
1) $cd /usr/libexec/oah/
$ sudo mv translate xtranslate
2) remove the entry for rosetta in /Library/Receipts/InstallHistory.plist
Which got Software Update to reinstall it when I opened Appleworks.
Still no go. :-(

Your user account (other) doesn't have execute permission for LaunchCFMApp - the final "x" is missing.
In my 10.6.8 system I get:
