Q: Startup Tone Confusion

When I boot up my MacPro I get the normal start up tone, followed by a long pause and then 4 abbreviated tones. I looked up the tone codes for Apple and I'm trying to figure out when counting tones do I count the original startup tone meaning 5 total or is it just 4? I've reset the PRAM and well...to be honest that is about all I have expertise wise that doesn't involve me swearing at it and shaking my fist. I'm a photographer so I guess I just need to figure out if my computer is about to bite the big one or is it salvagable? Its an older dual core 2.66 processor so its WAY too old for the Genius Bar.

An evaluation at the genius Bar is free -- in warranty or out of warranty.

Out of warranty, what is not free is the work you may want done once you know what they find. But you are under no obligation to have them do it.

If it is a RAM problem, most folks can buy and install RAM from a reputable Mac-centric Vendor like OWC/MacSales and do it themseles for cheap. (like under US$100 cheap)
