Cannot view some video with Safari

I have no idea why this is, but for whatever reason I'm unable to view some videos in Safari.

I've got AdBlock installed, but even when turning it off, I'm unable to watch video from sites like espn.go.com.

If I navigate to a video page on espn, such as:

http://espn.go.com/video/category?id=2459791

I just get the page, with a blank/black video window, in which the video never loads.

I've also tried watching this video:

http://www.vitalmtb.com/videos/member/mountain-biker-fight-in-new-zealand,13041/ OCsponger587,3858

with the same result. just a black video window that never shows a single frame of video.

My Flash player is up to date (v11.2.202.233 as of this posting) and I've got AdBlock turned off. I've tried resetting Safari, to no avail.

If it matters, I'm on a MBP with 2.53 GHz Intel i5 running 10.6.8.

I've had problems with several other sites not playing video as well... I just don't get it... 😠

EDIT:

I'm also unable to view those using Firefox... Something just ain't right in my Mac.

MacBook Pro (15-inch Mid 2010), Mac OS X (10.6.8)

My Flash player is up to date (v11.2.202.233

Sometimes uninstalling the current Flash plugin then reinstalling new can help > Troubleshoot Flash Player | Mac OS

Make sure and uninstall the old plugin first.

Then quit and relaunch Safari. From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Empty Cache

Now try a video.

BTW... if you have the ClickToFlash extension installed, that can prevent Flash based video from streaming. It can also be installed as a plugin in /Library/Internet-Plug-Ins.

And check to see if Safari is running in 32 bit mode. Right or control click the Safari icon in your Applications folder then click Get Info. If the box next to: Open in 32 bit mode is selected,

no luck...

uninstalled flash, cleared cache, reinstalled flash. i'm not running in 32-bit mode, but it looks like your reply got cut off while explaining that bit...

no ClickToFlash anywhere on my system. i can't understand what would cause video from some sites to work vs others... ?

Most likley just a forum software glitch 😕

Check to see if you have any extensions installed.

From your Safari menu bar click Safari > Preferences then select the Extensions tab.

If you have any installed, turn that OFF, quit then relaunch Safari to test.

Nope... Extensions off. Safari Reset. Cache cleared. Quit. Launch. Still no video from above links.

Aggravating...

Nope... doesn't show up in a search for "little" at least.

It's weird that the same videos won't play in Firefox either, making me think it's has to be something outside of Safari...

Flash would have to be one of the most annoying things that computer users have to deal with... IMHO. Thanks Adobe.

Anyway, I ended up removing the Flash Plugin altogether and given that I have the Perian 1.2.3 plugin installed (which supports Flash) things have now returned to normal and YouTube videos play properly in Safari and Firefox (though videos did play properly in Firefox before I removed the Flash plugin). Go figure.

My MBP is running a lot better too so that's a bonus.

I haven't had any problems with YouTube, just various other sites with video: espn.go.com, some news sites, and various others.

I'm wondering what it might cost me to just walk into an Apple Store with it and let one of their "Geniuses" have a look and dig around a little.

ESPN and CNN both require the Flash plugin.

Check Safari > Prefeences > Extensions

If you have any installed, turn that OFF, quit thren relaunch Safari to test.

I have been trying to solve this annoying issue for quite some time. I tried all the suggestions listed here to no avail. I changed a storage setting in the Flash Prefs pane in the System Prefs and after that I was able to play video.

I changed the following:

I opened System Prefs>FlashPlayer. Under the "Storage Tab" I had "Block all sites from storing information on this conputer". I changed it to "Allow sites to save information on this computer". Closed the System Prefs. Relaunched Safari and the video begain to play on a ESPN page.

I did recreate the fault again. Hope this helps.

Flash version is 11.4.402.265

Safari Version: Version 6.0.1 (8536.26.14)
