i've been trying to download apps but they're pretty much all for iOs 4 or 5 but i didn't know how to update so i checked it out
on apple and they say i have to go to Software Update in my general settings. Thing is...there ain't no such thing in my settings ! Is there another way to update ?

oops, I thought you were asking how to update Apps. Use AnaMusic's post to update your iPod Touch.
Open App Store on your iPod touch. select the Updates icon [bottom right]. If any of your apps need an update they will be listed. Update each or Update All [top right]. It will ask for your Apple ID password. Enter it and the update(s) will be done.

No luck......I tried updating it with itunes and they tell me This version of 3.1.3 is the actual version....
It appears that you have 1G iPod. That can only go to iOS 3.1.3. If you need a device with a higher iOS you need to purchase a newer iPod,. Note that a 2G can only go to iOS 4.2.1
to be honest its an iPod that somebody forgot at my job...it stayed there for months so i just took it so i dont really know how it works or what type it is
