Unable to rename partition

You cannot partition the TC drive and name of the drive is set automagically by the TC itself. The only way to change the name would be to remove the drive from the TC and plug directly into the computer.. you can also then partition it.. but you void the warranty to the TC.

I was able to partition the Time Capsule drive with Disk Utility. It was quite easy. It provides the option to rename the partitions. However, once the partitions are named, I'm not sure you can change the names to those partitions - at least I have not discovered a way to do so yet.

I cannot even mount a network drive in drive utility..

Because Pondini is totally wrong then when he explains you can create only disk images and not partitions.

The word "partition" can mean different things to different people. "Disk Image" means the same as "partition" to some folks.

LMAO people in here are so rude and hold the highest authority when they don't even have a clue as to what they are talking about. I recently changed mine from Terabyte to 2TB.

You need the old version of AirPort Utlity 5.5.3 - http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1390

Click Manual Setup on your Time Capsule > Disks > Disks(tab) > Click on the current name under Time Capsule Disk > Then to the right type new name > Click Update

But when I am told you can partition the TC from the disk utility.. then sorry but that is wrong info.

You cannot partition from either disk utility or the airport utility.. only by removing the drive.

You can rename the partition.

The Time Capsule always only has 1 parition (division of the drive).

The only way to get multiple partitions is to take the drive out of the Time Capsule and use Disk Utility or something similar to partitition the drive.

Disk Utility can partition the Time Capsule or any other drive but not while the drive is inside the Time Capsule.

Yeap exactly..

And there are lots of posts where I would love to go back and edit.. but editing is removed as an option after 10min or so.. the window of opportunity is small.. so I figure.. some of the eggs spurts around here will quickly correct mistakes. We got kind of diverted in this thread.

This will void the warranty of the Time Capsule but will not void the warranty of your Mac.

Yes, that's what I said. It will void the 1-year warranty on the Time Capsule.

If there's AppleCare on a Mac purchased within 2 years of the TC purchase, AppleCare normally also covers the TC -- but that's void, too, if you open the TC.

I had this same problem as well. After some frustrating efforts, I found what for me was a simple solution. I hope it will work for you as well.

1. Open AirPort Utility.

2. Click on the "Disks" button/tab.

3. In the "Partitions:" box, click on the name of the partition that is shown there.

If your screen responds the same way mine did, a cursor will appear in the name, and you will be able to modify the name as you wish.
