How can I fix iCal that is jammed/frozen/nonresponsive after trying to past in a calendar entry. I've restarted program and computer. Unable to remove entry and associated message "the server responded with an error" ICal stuck updating. Help?

I was trying to past an entry and the iCal program froze with an error message that can't be deleted, the program stuck indicating updating and totally non-reponsive. i can only exit by force quit. It is stuck on yesterday which is the day I was trying to paste an entry. I think the entry was too large. How can I get out of this. i've restarted the program and the ocmputer but it doesn't change. I wonder if I could use time machine to go back to a previous cal version? Any ideas? I have my cal also on iphone and at icloud so I am not at a total loss. Except that i cal is now totally non functional.

iMac, Mac OS X (10.7.3)

Joe,

Try removing the com.apple.iCal.plist file from your Macintosh HD/Users/yourusername/Library/Preferences Folder. To find that folder, use Finder>Go Menu>Depress the "Option" key>Library. Drag the .plist file to your desktop, and log out/in or restart and check iCal for functionality.

HI, well i have the same issue and read through this helpful thread, but when I followed the steps, it deleted ALL my entries in my calendar (including holidays). Specifically, I removed all files (non-folders) from the Lbrary that had the word "cache" anywhere in the file name--I'd say there was about 30 of them or so. What's I'd like to do is get all the calendar events back EXCEPT the offending one (a copy and paste that caused the error massage). Any sugestions? Thanks in Advance.

WM. stop! Don't connect any other device to Internet. Your duplicate calendar on your iPhone or iPad has your calendar. Don't open it. Or your action will wipe it. Once you have the data safe, back on your iCal situation, when it all reloads it may be no more problem. Yet you can likely tap the message near the beginning and erase a few sentences. Keep erasing a few sentences at a time until it's gone. Or short enough to not extend beyond the boundary of the bottom of the screen. And in future don't make huge notes in calendar.

OK, thanks. I have turned off my WiFi on my iPhone (and checked that does still have the calendar entries). When I open iCal on my Macbook, I no longer get the effor message -- but, as mentioned above, I've also lost my calendr entries. Any suggestion. Is there some way to have the iPhone calendar overwrite iCal on my Mac?

And yes, i've learned my lesson about copying and pasting calendar entries with long nessages!:)

I'm not certain. At least you have them all. If have 3 devices, make a new entry in one of the non-Mac ones. And see if the Mac shuffles up all the old ones. Beyond that I would call apple. Or Genius Bar. Or macrumors chat forums. Maybe backing up iPhone or iPad will update Mac. Do phone or iPad first. Then cancel wifi and see what happens when turn on Mac. My guess. Note your important stuff!!!
