Safari slow and freezes when loading pages

Hi I've been having a problem with Safari for the past few months it frequently freezes when loading web pages, sometimes it will eventually load, other times it wont. the blue progress bar in the address bar stops on about 10% with a plain white page it doesn't happen all the time but disturbingly it happens on pages as simple as Google search, not just data heavy sites. other symptoms include having to click links several times to get them to respond and I get the you are not connected to the Internet page when I go to some sites only to try another page from my bookmarks and it will load perfectly.

Any help greatly appreciated its driving me nuts.

Ive just been talking to a friend of mine who has exactly the same qaud core imac I have, and he is having exactly the same problem with a different wifi router, he also thinks it was a recent lion update which broke his wifi connection and Ive searched the internet and it seems lots of other people are having the same issue, is there anywhere I can report it to Apple ?

I'm experiencing the very same problem with Safari 5.1.7 and MacOs 10.6.8. Third party add-ons are disabled, cache file cleared, and I'm using various different network environments (WiFi at home, and Ethernet or WiFi at work). I even went as far as disabling the page prefetching (named as a possible culprit in another post), but all to no avail. The only (ugly) workaround I found is to immediately reload the page once Safari gets stuck - that is as soon as the blue progress bar stops progressing and Safari stalls for some seconds, I place the cursor into the address field and press enter - usually the page then loads at once, without any further delay.

I already do this in Safari but it still takes several minutes before the page reloads. Glad I am not the only user experiencing similar things. Apple will never admit anything but we may see Safari fixed in a future update!

Now I have the additional problem of all my numbered pictures suddenly going out of order following the installation of the last update. Apple fixed this problem once and now it's back. We are clealy very loyal customers to keep putting up with things like this!

Of course when you call Apple Support they know of no problems at all! Why don't you reset your 2x iPads and iPhone, they must have all gone wrong simultaneously!

I found a fix for the Safari freeze in one of these many forums (see the link below). Seems the "Database.sqlite3" gets corrupted after a while. Deleting this file solved the problem for me. If one furthermore disables RSS feeds permanently, the cure could be permanent. Please follow this link for more details:

I have done all of this stuff and safari still freezes and I especially notice it when going to google. This just started in the last month or so. Safari will load some pages but freezes on others. Also, Google Chrome will open google very fast, but I would rather use Safari. I have tried the DNS change and deleting stuff with terminal. I am hardwired to a router with ethernet. Also, it is not an internet problem Chrome and Firefox run fine. It is a Safari problem.

I tried doing all of the above and nothing worked. Google search bar and Gmail were especially slow.

1. Used Onyx to fix permissions and clear web cache

2. Changed IPV6 to link locally

3. Changed DNS to Google DNS

4. Deleted all extensions ( except last pass but I've been using that for a while with no problems and its absolutely crucial to me )

5. Deleted DNS pre-fetching as recommended by the apple site

NONE OF THIS WORKED.

I then did a factory reset on the router ( DLINK DSL G604T) and rebooted again and hey presto! It actually WORKED. Safari is zippy again.

I also upgraded the firmware to the latest version although I don't believe that improved things further.

Opening and closing my Safari does not help, but restarting the computer does seem to do it, at least for a while. However, I do notice that eventually it does begin freezing again, and it is especially on certain sites. Google is the one I notice first because I use it quite frequently.

What is a kick in the head is Google Chrome works fine, but I have all of my book marks in Safari and I kind of like Safari, but if it continues to freeze, that may change.

Thanks for all the suggestions;been a loyal Safari user forever but having the same freezing problem here and have been forced to switch over to Chrome which works just fine.

To GetBobT1: when you install Chrome originally, it will ask if you want to import existing bookmarks, very easy.

Hard to believe Apple's not on top of this; anybody heard of any help from Apple on this topic?

Upgraded to ML and Safari 6, not a problem. Today Safari 6 loads some pages and not others.

1) Cleaned out all the caches and removed website data in "Privacy" in Safari & Develop pulldown.

2) Opened Disc utility and ran through HD's; No problems.

3) Turned machine off.

4) Rebooted & Reset AExtreme and cable router.

5) Rang ISP and shouted at them - they said "Sorry".

6) Looked at cable box and AExtreme and muttered "SORRY" and waved arms in an ABRACADABRA motion - nothing magical happened.

7) Turned on MPro & opened safari 6.

8) CNN loads; Hotmail- nope; Ebay - NOPE; fcp.co - YES; business website - NOPE!; Apple support pages - some(????); then CNN didn't refresh!!!!

9) Did an upload/ download test - works fine

Also 'Software update" - not working. "App Store cannot verify a secure connection with App Store" (Construction is redundant but besides...)

iTunes Store - not working "iTunes could not connect to the iTunes Store. The network connection timed out."

FF working normally ????? Er, hello chaps & chappesses in Cupertino

Moving to FF temporarily until a "fix" or solution is at hand.
