is RAM running out?

Hi guys I have a Mid-2010 27" 3.2GHz i3 4GB Ram imac and I'm running lion which I just bought 4 days ago.

Anyway I have noticed my machine a bit slower than usual and I know many of you are gonna roll their eyes but after the recent security threads I got Sophos, I normally (daily) run Chrome, itunes, messages(beta) and lately activity monitor to see what my ram is doing and it say's 3.98GB are being used!

That make me think about upgrading my ram to 12GB from crucial which now is running at $45.99 for 2x4GB sticks.

1-Could I really use the ram or it will be overkill?

2-Is Crucial a good reliable brand, anyone has some experience with it?

Thank you.

You'll see a definite benefit upping your RAM - I went from 4 to 8 to 12gb. For me there was a big difference going 4 to 8, less so going from 8 to 12. But at that price I'd do it.

Crucial are highly recommended on here, as are OWC ( macsales.com ).
