i keep entering my serial number but it always seems wrong. I bought a new iMac in November

Go to Apple menu, about this Mac, and click twice just under Mac OS X where it says Version and you will see your serial number.

As I recall, there are no letter O's in the serial number; all which appear to be such are the number 0. Be careful to not confuse X and K. And all letters are capitals.
