I was halfway though a Pages document when the program shut down.  The problem is that I had yet to save the document.  Is there anyway to recover the document? Help!!!

Unless Mac OS X 10.7's autosave system created a copy of it, no. While other software provides autosave functionality for iWork, all such programs need to be installed at the time the document would otherwise be lost.

Sad.  This is something that should be remedied.  If iWork does not have the capability, is there any other software that does?

If you are using Lion autosave will save the documents periodically if you have saved it at least once. If you never saved it, Lion doesn't know where to save it. There are third-party solutions that work the same way for earlier OSes.
