Color matching with multicam clips

Hello,

I'm trying to figure out how I can color match between my multicam clips in FCPX. I'm kind of a newbie, but I'm trying... :-)

If I double click on a multicam clip that I just created, I see all the clips expanded on the timeline. At that point, I can sync, edit, etc. If I color match there, it's very easy, and it works well. The problem is that I can't figure out how to save all my edits and then "un-expand" the mulitcam clip so it's just the one layered clip (same as if you just drag the multicam clip down from the events list).

I suppose I could just leave it expanded - but it would be easier to work with if it was just the one multicam clip, instead of all the clips inside it expanded out. So - how do I do it? Am I making sense? If the color matching applied to the actual event, it would be easy - and I could just create a new multicam clip and start a new project. However, it doesn't work that way and only applies the color matching to the clip in the timeline (as it should....).

Thanks for any help you might have.

I do have the right angle selected and I have done colour correction like this before. I can't understand what is different this time.

Here is a print screen: User uploaded file

Unfortunetaly it isn't showing my curser which is hovering on top of th red line on the lower clip which is the one who's colour I want to apply to the clip above.

It's so frustrating becuase as this thread suggests I am doing what I should be doing and it's not having it. grrr

Please help

I thought you were onto somthing then, but still not happening .

The print screen doesn't show my cursor which is hovering on the red line on the frame I want to match. Obviously I click like you would to colour match and nothing happens. Notice in the info panel the blue dot indicating match colour is selected has like a half tone to it, could that mean something?

I must be missing something really simple, here, what is it?

OK - I think I figured it out. I had created two multicam clips and was dragging the wrong one in after color correcting. It does appear to edit the clips in the multicam clip file when you color correct. Then you just create a new project and when you drag the multicam clip down it now has your edits.

But maybe this will help someone else.... :-)

Can any of the gurus out there help with a related point? You've done a multicam edit and chosen your angles. You now review it and decide to change some of the angles. You also do a few through edits. You end up with a whole host of angles, some only a few frames long. If adjacent angles are from the same camera, the timeline does not 'heal' - they remain separate angles even though they are in fact a continuous clip from the same camera. Now you want to adjust the colour correction. You have numerous clips, lots of which need to be dealt with identically because they are adjacent. How do you do this - I can't find an easy way of matching colour over multiple clips, at this stage in the edit. Any ideas where I am going adrift?

I've got a similar problem.

I'm trying to colour correct one of the multicam clips in the angle editor.

When I click colour match and hover over the other clip part of this multi cam clip nothing happens and the 'apply match' button remains greyed out.

I can colour match the individual cuts back in normal time line but of course I don't want to waste time doing it to every single clip/cut.

Why won't it let me colour correct in angle editor?

The mouse icon turns into a mini monitor when I hover over the clip i want to match to.

Any ideas?

FCP X - Beginner I guess,

Did you ever find a definitive answer to this?

I have recreated EXACTLY what you've described here. None of the "solution" posts address how to solve this.

I can do color matching perfectly in a fresh project timeline - no problems.

But can't do it in my multi-cam clip from the event browser.

My behavior is EXACTLY as you've described here.

I have lost about six hours playing around and searching other forums for this issue's solution.

Here is some more information Tom,

In the multi-cam clip -- I can now color match angle 1 to angle 2 - BUT angle 3 -- and all my clips are prores proxies all optimized and all analysed -- all shot with similar cameras.

Funny thing though is -- when I finally get angle 1 to match angle 2 (still nothing on 3) -- it just makes the original clip go to a dark black and white -- very NOT successfully matching it.

But if I try the exact same steps and use angle 3 as the one to match to -- NOTHING happens and the apply match stays greyed out.

Very strange behavior.
