Itunes Crashing on Start up Windows 7

System Windows 7 64 bit

I have the lastest version on Itunes installed.
it has now started crashing on Start up so i tried reinstalling to no avail.
I have managed to stop it crashing on start up by creating a new libary by holding shift however itunes will still crash when importing the new libary or accessing the Itunes Stores.
I will try defraging.
also used CCleaner to both uninstall and clean registery both didnt work to fix the problem
also tried disbaling Anti Virus And still had the same problem
any other sugestions?

Thanks

Remove iTunes Preference files

Some of the files that iTunes uses to store settings and preferences may be unusable and cause issues. iTunes has two folders where preferences are saved. Move one of them to the desktop and test to see if the issue persists. If it does, move it back and remove the second folder. The location for the two preference folders are:

  • C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes
  • C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes

I've been having this issue too and I've just found an even simpler fix!

I tried the removing of the itunes directories to the desktop one at a time.First the roaming directory and that resulted in iTunes asking me to accept the agreement again, which I did, and then I had an empty library. Just to see what would happen, it's the QA experience in me! 🙂, I returned the roaming itunes directory back and then moved the Local itunes folder to the desktop.

This time itunes loaded but gave the error that the bonjour service wasn't running. Quite right too. Hate it when apps add bloatware that I don't need, so I shut down the service a while ago.

So having that thought, I returned the itunes folder to the Local directory and then started up the Bonjour.

Now I get no errors when I start up! Apparently this app needs it's added bloatware to run properly. Who knew! 🙂

Still all's well that ends well. Just thought I'd pass on my experience, in case it helps someone else.

This seems to be a symptom of a problem with many causes, but this is what worked for me.

I didn't want to rebuild my library from scratch (in my present user, or in a new Windows user) because of the time involved. I tried other suggestions here:

1. Start iTuners with Shift+Control. That allowed me to run iTunes at about one in 7 attempts, but it wasn't a real solution.

2. I tried reinstalling both iTunes and Quicktime, of course. No improvement.

3. I tried moving C:\Users\username\AppData\Local\Apple Computer\iTunes and C:\Users\username\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer\iTunes away from their usual place. iTunes made a new copy and I had to re-select some personal settings, but no improvement.

4. Tried turning off automatic refresh of podcasts.

I'm running Windows 7 64-bit fully up to date. On the last update (to 11.4.0.18), I noticed that Apple was offering me the 32-bit version of iTunes, despite having 64-bit Windows, I have had solid performance for several days now with the following actions:

1. Uninstalled iTunes and Quicktime.

2. Downloaded and installed the *64-bit* version of iTunes (called iTunes64Setup.exe at the time of writing). Actually, even with that, most of iTunes still goes in C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes but there is a folder and 3 dlls in C:\Program Files\iTunes and some files in C:\Program Files\iPod

Now, I don't get abnormal closes with iTunes.
