I have what looks like an excel doc on my desktop, using Mac OSX 10.7.3
Item has a file name of 12997100 with no extension
I cannot move it to the trash, even with option or control key
cannot open the file
open to any ideas on how to remove it

Here's an old trick from the OS 9 days. Add .rtf to the file name (12997100.rtf). Then open TextEdit and create a simple file. Then do a Save As and give it the name 12997100.rtf. Then you may be asked if you want to replace the older file. Click Yes.

Tried repairing permissions and that did not help, could not do "Get Info" either. Finally restarted and it vanished! Thanks for the good suggestions.

I've found that force quitting finder removes these from the desktop
sudo killall Finder
