How do I clear the "cache" on my MacBook Air OS X 10.7.3

Recently I Apple and a technician helped me clear my "cache" (I am obviously a former PC user). I cannot remember the steps we took and she said it is a good idea to do this periodically. Can someone walk me through the steps?

Thank you.

THANK YOU. I followed your instruction & will assume it cleared my cache (I don't know how to really tell if it did or not).

Disregard redsox.javp suggestion, it's not only unnecessary but a waste of money and potentially harmful. OS X is not like a MS Windows box that requires a lot of 3rd party utilities to operate well. Most of the utilities necessary are built right into OS X, you can find them in Applications - Utilities. The easiest method to clear some caches is to start-up in Safe Mode. Very simple to do, when you hear the startup tone hold down the Shift key until you see a progress bar appear.A Safe Mode boot will reset some caches, after the machine has fully booted restart normally and you're done.
