Can I copy iPod playlists to ...

... my itunes account as a playlist? Or to my (new) Mac or (new) iPad? These playlists exist ONLY on my ipod (used to also exist on a Dell that died long ago) -- and I would like to copy them exactly. Some of the music was purchased on itunes but some was burned from CDs. Seems that itunes doesn't want for me to do this. I now know never to create a playlist DIRECTLY on a device, but I really want to keep these. Any help will be greatly apprecaited. I'm new to Apple products (except for my old ipod) and am frustrated. Thanks.
