I cannot get the movie theater look off my screen, ha ha. The lights are bright at bottom and fade to the top. Does anyone know how to turn this off.

Check System Preferences->Universal Access->Seeing->Display.
She may have set an image as the desktop pattern. Open the System Preferences and click on the Desktop & Screen Saver heading. Click on the Desktop tab. If it shows an image that looks like your current desktop, just choose something else to change it.
