sync pics edited with iphoto on ipad to my computer

You must first export the edited photos using the Share feature in iPhoto for iOS and selecting to share to Camera Roll. Unfortunately the current version of iPhoto for iOS only lets your export photos to the Camera Roll 1 at a time.

This was driving me nuts, too. Just got it. Basically, you transfer the photos to iTunes as documents, like you would other apps.

1. Tag your photos you want to transfer.
2. Tap Share. Select iTunes.
3. Select Flagged. (Although you could also take the entire folder. Hmmm, or you can select on the fly -- didn't notice that when I tried it before. Okay, step 1 is optional, but if you already have a bunch of tagged photos, like I did, keep step 1.)
4. Synch with your Mac.
5. In iTunes, open your iPad under Devices, select Apps, select iPhoto under File Sharing.
6. You should see a Shared Photos folder under iPhoto Documents. Select the one you want (probably just one), then click Save To...
7. Pick a spot to save your photos.
8. Open folder that was just saved and drag the photos to iPhoto.
9. After the import, you'll (finally) have your photos under Last Import in iPhoto.

This might work, but I'm not sure I would call this 'syncing edited photos'. You basically end up with new copies of your photo's, right?

Totally correct, alas. It's a kludge with a capital K. :-(

OTOH, the alternative is to make your edits all over again on the originals still on your Mac. Not a great solution, it just stinks less than others.

This is what I do:

a. Export photo to camera roll

b. Connect to PC (assume windows) via USB

c. Copy photo from step a to folder on PC

d. If desired, delete photo from step a on iPad

Thank you sooooo much for this! I had tried so many things to get my 179 photos from a trip to Africa to export to my laptop. Using this method I was finally able to do it. I was going to shoot myself if I had to send them one by one and wait! 😝

Lets hope Apple will include this automatic syncing option in mountain lion and iOS6 how frustrating after hours of editing work to have to export photos manually even by the flagging method it should be a seemless process...

Just to add to it to make things a little quicker...

I wanted to copy an album of photos I had already edited on my iPad whilst on holiday and had created an album for them to sit in. What I found out was you don't have to flag each individual photo. There are two options:

OPTION 1

This option is good if you just want to select a range of photos within an album.

1. Open the album in iPhoto.

2. Click on the settings symbol on the bottom right of the screen.

3. Click "Select Multiple..."

4. Click on the first photo in the album. A tick should appear in the thumbnail of the photo.

5. At the top of the screen, click on "Range"

6. Scroll the photos in the grid up until you find your last photo. Click on it. Ticks should now appear in all the thumbnails.

7. Click "Done".

8. Tap the share symbol at the top of the screen and then iTunes.

9. Choose either "selected" or "all". The photos will now be synced to iTunes.

Follow the JHerlocker's instructions from point 4.

OPTION 2

If you do want all of the photos, you don't have to select the entire range:

1. Just click on one photo and click the flag symbol at the bottom of the screen to flag it.

2. Tap the share symbol at the top of the screen and then iTunes.

3. It will show that you have one Selected and one Flagged but also gives you the option of selected All the photos. So just click on that option and it will sync all of them with iTunes.

I'm running iOS 5.1.1 and Mountain Lion 10.8 and I still don't see a way to sync albums without this rigmarole. Photo Stream is fine but doesn't sync eidted photos even when they've just been edited with the simple Photos editor, for example, when cropping photos. Hopefully iOS6 will make this easier??!

Wow, the guys at Dropbox must be laughing their heads off at a 9-step process to get photos from iPad to Mac. It boggles the mind in this day and age. I assume Apple will be making this work better using iCloud in the near future. I sure hope so.

In the meantime, for low volume stuff I also use 'share to email' from the iPad which allows me to transfer 5 photos at a time in fewer steps than working with iTunes.

I'm also playing with Dropbox and Google Drive to see if there is benefit to be gained by putting the iPhoto library into a folder in one of those cloud services. If anyone has done something that works well, please comment.

thanks to JHerlocker for the steps for transfering edited photos accros, I managed to complete this last night! I have a new problem though which is sending me crazy. Now I have trasferred all my edited photos to iPhoto on my Mac they are now smaller file sizes (and therefore I can only asume lower quality) than the same photo on my iPad, or the unedited version that I have alrady synced accross to my Mac the easy way. I am pretty sure it states somewhere that sending photos via fles share should not compress or alter them in anyway, however it has!

Love the interface of iPhoto on the iPad however if I can't edit photos on it and take them accross to my mac with no loss in quality there is little point in the app in my view.

I gave up on the Apple process and purchased an app called PhotoSync. It sends photos or videos wherever you want and the process is dead simple. There is even a quick sync feature which allows you to send files to your chosen default location with one click.

Apple's mechanism is too cumbersome and too limiting. I sure hope they use iCloud to improve it in the near future.

I tried this method. It requires a lot of free space in the iPad. If you have a lot of photos to sync to your computer, common thing after a photo trip, you cannot share using iTunes.

Unbelievable.

This is driving me nuts. After a big photo trip and a lot of photo editing in the iPhoto in iPad, I cannot export my work. Not enough memory to "share with iTunes"!!!

Why does it need to duplicate the existing pictures to share? Of course there will never be enough space with a big photo library!
