I successfully uploaded a book using iBook Author. I need to make a correction. I keep getting this error message: ERROR ITMS-9000: "Files of type audio/x-m4a are not allowed outside of widgets: assets/media/chick02.m4p" at Book (MZItmspBookPackage)

I appreciate any help or assistance. I have been trying to update one of my books for for the past few days with no success. I really just need to change two letters. But since I was updating I thought I would make a couple more improvements. I clicked disable portrait and made my pictures a little bigger to fit the whole page. But now I keep getting this error for multiple sound effects throughout the book. ERROR ITMS-9000: "Files of type audio/x-m4a are not allowed outside of widgets: assets/media/chick02.m4p" at Book (MZItmspBookPackage). I did not change the audio. The audio files are placed in widgets. I had no problem the first time it uploaded. I have recreated my whole book from scratch and it still does not work. Does anyone have a suggestion? Thank you for your attention to my question.

Thank you! I have read the discussion. When making an update to an existing package, does it matter if the new file uploaded has a different name? Does it matter if the size is a little larger?

I actually successfully edited one of my other books. At first, I received the error message. Then another time it went through. I am not sure what the difference was. A ticket had been opened. Then the change appeared soon after.

Does anyone know why or how an audio can be outside of a widget?

Thank you!!!

I don't believe so. When you update an existing package the new content simply replaces the old one (at least conceptually—it's possible that Apple hang on to earlier versions for reference).

Judging by the thread I linked to, there doesn't appear to be one, other than trying the DRM-free option. But at least one poster said he eventually got it to work with a Quicktime export. (However, he didn't say whether that was with or without DRM.)

I have previously delivered four books using iBook Author and iTunes producer. I had the above message while trying to update. Again, tonight I received the same message while trying to upload my fifth book. Could it matter that I am dragging my audio files onto my document? They appear to be in a widget once dragged in. I use the widget insector to make changes. However, I did not go to the top of the screen and click widget and then insert my audio file. Also some of the audio file were used in previous books. Would that cause an error? I am still trying to figure this out.

I don't believe that would make any difference. Drag-and-drop is just a UI shortcut for using the menu items.

No. Each book is a stand-alone entity. It doesn't matter if the same audio file appears in another book.

From what people have reported here, it looks like there is a bug in the submission system. Other than trying the suggestions posted in the linked-to thread, I don't think there is anything you can do to fix it.

I would submit a bug report to Apple though. Quite a lot of people seem to be affected by this problem, and if they hear about the same problem from lots of different sources, that will (presumably) elevate the importance of fixing it.

Michi, thank you for taking the time to comment on my questions! I appreciate your help.

I have a few more questions...

Does it matter that have strectched my pictures to fit the entire page and some of the picture actually extends beyong the page? I have successfully uploaded a book this way before. However, I did not start gettng the bug until I started stretching my pictures to fit beyond the page.

Also, how do I go about submitting a bug report?

Thank you!

Update... I was finally able to successfully deliver my fifth book!!! I took the above suggestion. I checked the DRM free box and my book delivered with no problem.

I did also do a few other changes. I reduced by file size by swapping out a picture and chose one territory.

Then, I immediately went into Manage My Books to edit to make sure the DRM free says no. I was also able to add a territory.

I am going to try an update this way too.

I write Children's books. I am doing a series called Make Noise. There are beautiful photographs and sound effects for animals in each book. If you have children feel free to check out my books!

Thank you,

I was so excited to be able to upload my fifth book by checking the drm free and then going back to change it to not drm free. However, I was not able to do this when trying to make an update. I wanted to update one of my books so I clicked publish. Filled out a new package with existing isbn. Saved and overwrote the existing package. I figured I would include all the territories that my book was previously listed in. I checked the drm free box in all (with the hopes of changing it right back). Well, I received the same error message! Then I tried removing all territories except one. I still received the same message. I will keep trying.

I'm having some trouble with similar errors. Though I'm not experienced enough yet with apples process to know what they mean or what I can do to fix.

Any ideas? Anybody?

Update: I have recently delivered my 6th book of the Make Noise series. On my first attempt to deliver my book, I received the same error message. I went back into the territory section and checked drm free. Then I resubmitted the package and it went through. I then went into manage my books and made sure to click no for drm free. I did not have this problem when delivering my first four books.

I am still having trouble updating one of my books. I continue to get the same error message. I have been emailing with Apple Support, but I previously tried the suggestions given. Hopefully, I wil be able to successfully to update my book. I have wasted so much time trying to redeliver my book.

Is there any one out there who has been able to successfully update a book that is created with IBooks Author, contains audio and is live on the store? Am I supposed to be able to update a book on my own or do I need an Apple rep to open a ticket. I tried to update another book as well and received he same error message with or without the drm free box checked. I have been emailing with ibookstore support, but have not found a solution yet.
