Hello donkeymusic:

I have no connection at all with the company that makes flip4mac. In fact, if I did and did not so indicate, I would be violating the forum terms of use.

I mentioned that software because Microsoft has stopped supporting WMV for the Mac (in fact, you cannot download it from the site any more). I read a number of posts here sometime ago on the issue and flip4mac seemed to address the issue. I use the free version myself.

i have posted regarding media player and got someone
pushing flip4mac in my face.

I wouldn't say that 'take a look at this' is pressure selling, but that's just me.

You perhaps ignorant of current events then. Microsoft have offically depreciated WMP for Mac. On Mactopia they they have removed WMP from their downloads section and recommend Flip4Mac as the solution to view WMP files on Mac OS X. So Barry was right on the mark.

Flip4Mac is regularly updated, it uses much less resources than WMP and as it functions in QuickTime it's a lot more responsive. I was glad to finally trash WMP.

Ok, once I install Flip4Mac, and i try to stream radio from Firefox, will it automatically work? Does it Open quicktime up automatically? This seems to be the only answer all over the internet.

I don't understand why not one single browser can play a stream for an apple. What's the deal with this?

Is it that all of these streams were set up only to run on a PC?

Sorry, but I'm frustrated. I just bought a mac and i can't do what i really like to do, stream radio.

I tried re-installing Windows Media Player 9 about 5 times, but still couldn't get video to play. Then I read about Flip4Mac and installed it, but all I ever got was ads on Quick Time. I wanted to hear the music samples on Amazon, but couldn't. Finally I installed Opera 8.52. I LOVE OPERA! All the web pages work now, and Windows Media Player plays flawlessly. (I did have to uninstall Flip4Mac to get WMP to work with Opera, though.) The airline and car rental web pages that wouldn't work with Safari work with Opera. My employer's website that wouldn't work with either Safari, Internet Explorer, or Firefox, works with Opera. Good-bye, Safari, and good riddance! Wish I'd known about Opera earlier.

Removed?? Huh?
Windows Media is still available from the MS site.

While I hate MS bloatware, Flip4Mac is a POS. It does NOT work on most WMV files.

Just download WMP if this link doesn't work, check under 'Other products' on Mactopia:

Thermfonz, I did have to uninstall Flip4Mac before WMP 9 would work with Opera 8.52 for me on the sites I go to, like Amazon's music samples. I went to this 923freefm you mention and first had to register. Then there was a quick flash about my using a pop-up blocker, so I went up to Opera Quick Preferences and clicked "Open All Pop-Ups". Then I got something called a Radiomat Player and clicked on "Listen" and got "Page cannot be found." So I went to radiomat.com and saw that they had a little notice down at the bottom that Mac users needed to use Windows Media Player. They had an icon of the WMP 10 to click to download. But as far as I know, Mac users can't download anything higher than a WMP 9. So I never could listen to that radio station--sorry! You have a different model of Mac and a later OS, so maybe you can listen, but I doubt it. You should email the station and ask for advice. Here is the URL for their tech support:

If they tell you how to fix it so you can listen, tell us!

Camelia,

I found the answer. I downloaded Flip4Mac using a backdoor method, which another user informed me of. I had to download using Rosetta. There is an article that i can give you if you want. (I have a pentium iMac) Once I downloaded it, i tried 3 or 4 browser. Firefox, Opera, Camino, Safari, and Netscape. I tried all of them in order to play 923freefm. That's just one station that i tested it on. It seems that Netscape is the only browser that will play it. I'm pretty happy now, besides the fact that Netscape is a very slow browser. I use Camino for just quickly surfing around.

Yes, I'd like to see the article if you'd post the URL. I haven't heard of the Rosetta browser before. It is too bad that we Mac users have to try so many different browsers in order to get different websites to work. Safari seems to have compatibility problems with more website pages than the other browsers. Opera has a "trick" of identifying itself to web pages as either Opera, Mozilla, or Internet Explorer. (See "Quick Preferences".) Apparently, switching IDs can fool some sites into working with Opera--I don't pretend to understand it.

Rosetta isn't a browser, it's a translation environment that allows PowerPC programs to run on the new Intel hardware.

Safari can do this too if you enable the debug menu.
