I have the same problem i can hear ringtones, I can hear my alarms and reminders, and I can hear siri but I dont hear messages, Music, videos, Facetime, skype video calls, I dont hear the unlocking and locking clicks. its almost like those things are being routed on a different channel? Dock or Headphones? When I press the volume buttons all I see on the screen is the speaker icon with a heading that reads "ringer" I dont see volume level below it.

Well, well, well... what do you know! Here I am thinking I was the only one with a problem and there are others experiencing the same thing. My problem started around 945pm CST last night (April 30) and I have yet to figure it out. My software is updated and there's nothing I can find that'll point me in the right direction as to fixing this problem. I've reset it FOUR times and still no luck. I'm at work now and will find someone with a docking station to see if it works.

oh really? your lucky I've tried this before and nothing, I've also tried plugging the headphones in and out about 30 times and nothing, also use air can inside where the headphones plug, I've also tried using a tooth brush inside of the dock connector and maybe not so wise ive tried contact cleaner inside of the dock station while its off but it seems that there is a wet detector sticker in there and the IPhone provider thinks i just got my phone wet and they wont cover it.

No thats the issue, it doesn't work when its not docked.... everything works perfectly when its docked or have headphones plugged in. When you dock a regular IPhone (brand new out of the box) its normal to have certain sounds heard on the exterior speaker via the dock station.... you are never suppose to hear the phone ringing through that mentioned speaker, also never suppose to hear siri or the other things I mentioned before that I can hear on my phone now. that what leads me to believe that my phone thinks its docked or some external device is managing that sound.

guys, i had this problem... my fix was to replace the dock port on the phone. I got the parts and tools from macsales.com. be verrrrrrry careful and you can do it... its not hard. the hardest part is not ripping the ribbon cable from the home button to the connector attached to the dock port board. i did that, and had to snag one from my friend's old phone with a broken screen that i am so glad i had for the spare part.
