I receive message that "None of the selected updates could be installed. An unexpected error occurred." after the mac software update has downloaded the updates. I've run a permissions repair and trashed the updates in the library. Any ideas? Thanks.

What version does it say?

I trashed the contents in Library/Updates after the updates failed the first few times around.
Which updates are you having problems installing? Not really a good idea to move any files from libraries.
The only file I see in /Library/Updates is ProductMetaedata.plist
Open System Preferences > Software Update > Installed Software to see what has been installed.
AirPort Utility 6.0 and iTunes 10.6.1 fail.
There was also a HP Printer utility which failed as well.
How much free space on the startup disk?
Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure there's a minimum of 15% free disk space.
If there's plenty of available space, reinstall the Mac OS X using Lion Recovery
There's 114 GB available so I guess I'll try a recovery later. Strange... such non-essential updates to fuss with.
Actually, I'm running AirPort Utility 5.6 without any problems on Lion.
But you should be able to update iTunes. Try updating iTunes this way...
Launch iTunes. From the menu bar top of your screen click iTunes > Check for Updates
And you can always download updated drivers from the HP site.
I don't believe doing a recovery is worth it for me. We are down to one mac here and I think I'll let this issue slide for now.
