Q: Emergency Call from iPhone

what is the emergency call function on the iPhone?  It appears on the screen

along with the 'enter pin to unlock' query.

I am looking for an analog of the '911' button on a dumb cell phone.

All cell phones in the US must have the ability to call 911, whether locked, unlocked or even if a sim card is not installed...required by law. Thus, you can only call 911 unless you know the passcode.

Your feedback is very helpful.  Please tell me if I understand correctly:

if I touch the 'emergency call' on the iPhone screen, then it automatically

dials 911?  Which then gets connected by Verizon to the local 911, where-ever I might be?

And I don't need to 'do anything' to tell the iPhone that 911 is 'the emergency call'?  That's built in

    automatically?

And, that Verizon and 911 then have access to my physical whereabouts via the 'location services'?

That would be exactly what I hoped for.

Nope, you have to dial 911. All that does is give you access to dial an emergency number only...the whole world does not use 911.

Ah, so touching 'emergency call' would then only give me a keypad, where I could dial then 911?

I'm reluctant to 'test it' before I understand it, since I don't want to initiate a false alarm.

The worldwide emergency number from a mobile phone is 112.

Whatever area you are in the mobile network will connect you with the emergency system for where you are.

So if you are at home, you’ll get the local emergency system.  If you are in Kansas or in Sydney Australia you’ll get the emergency system for that location.
