I seem to have forgotten my password for an external LaCie HD (used as startup HD with firewire) and can't acces it.

This is what happened so far:

My original apple computer: Power PC G5 1.8 Ghz OS 10.4.11, attached with firewire: LaCie external HD with the same operating system.

Problem: can't acces LaCie (as stuart up disk) no more.

Due to total system crash I had to reinstall 10.4 on both systems (I don't have the update 10.4.11 any more).

I've tried to set new passwords with setup disk (holding down c key), but nothing works.

I really need to overrule or change these passwords so I can get to my LaCie HD.

Does anybody have any usefull tips?

Hello, does it not boot from the Install Disc, or Reset Password doesn't work?

Do you have Firmware password protection in Mac OS X ...

It would block usage of all the startup keys, like C, N, T, D, CMD+s, CMD+Option+p+r, CMD +v, Option, and Shift, as well as booting from anything but the Hard Drive.

Thank you for your reply.

Firmware is off (I think, I can't check this because I can't access my LaCie HD through firewire), reset password still doesn't work. When I try to reset password, I can only reset system root administrator.

How can block usage of all startup keys? and then what ?

It'll boot like a newly setup Mac, but all your stuff should still be there once filling out the stuff.

Hija BD, still trying, doesn't seem to work, receiving the message ".ApplesetupDone no such file in directory"

If all the above fails, then it appears to be time for an Archive & Install, which gives you a new OS, but can preserve all your files, pics, music, settings, etc., as long as you have plenty of free disk space...
