is there a way to take a screenshot on iPad with one hand?

I have a friend with only one working hand, and I have recommended an iPad to him. However, the only way of taking screenshots that I can find needs two hands. Is there another method?

iPhone 4, iOS 5.1

Yes, using Assistive Touch. Go to Settings/General/Accessibility/Assistive Touch, and toggle top On. A black square containing a white circle will appear on screen. Move this to anywhere you wish with one finger drag. Then click Customise Top Level Menu... and where you see in blue writing 6 Icons with a + and - choice next to it, click the + button. An extra button will appear on the screen containing a + symbol. Click that, and a sub menu will appear. Scroll down and one of the options will be Screenshot. Job done.

I've got an idea that may help him.

Settings->General->Accessibility->Assistive touch (turn on)

There's an on-screen button which looks somewhat like an translucent home button.

Drag it to the top right corner of the screen so he can reach that with one hand.

Tell him to position the iPad slightly tilt forward or it could lie on a flat plane.

Hold the sleep button, touch the "translucent" button and hit the home button action!

That should help, I hope. :)

I've just tried it myself.

The action menu positions itself at the middle of the screen. Probably apple could give this feature an update to situate the menu close to where the action button is located.

Anyway, it is still possible to do a screenshot with one hand with the suggested method.

Position the little finger on the sleep button and use the thumb to hit the "home button action" after you hit the action button.

Good luck.

I tried this approach and while it does work, with the latest iOS AssistiveTouch there's an even better way to take a single-handed screenshot:

1. Press the AssistiveTouch home icon to display the options overlay. Hint: You can enable AssistiveTouch all the time or set triple-click Home to bring it up.

2. Press the Device icon.

3. Press the More icon.

4. Press the Screenshot icon.

And taking the screenshot this way also removes the AssistiveTouch overlay from the picture.

Thanks Apple!
