iPad and usb stick?
Hi,
Is it possible to copy photos from my iPad onto a usb stick via the usb camera connector kit? And you can download photos off a usb stick via the camera connector kit, the same way you do with an SD card
Thanks

If the USB stick has a directory called DCIM and all of the photos in it have 8-character file names, then you may be able to download the pictures. It's not a supported use so it may not work. You cannot use the CCK to transfer pictures from the iPad to anything else.
LImited USB's do work. Avoid ones with bundled software like Sandisk or Kingston - when that software attempts to run it triggers the 'takes too much power' warning on the iPad.
Look for USB's that don't have big flashy LED lights. THat also triggers the too much power.
I had about a 50/50 success rate on the ones I tried....so be prepared to experiment. What I did to play around was that I made a master DCIM folder and put it on several drives and then just tried them one after the other.
Folks report overcoming the power issue by using an AC powered USB hub between the memory stick and the CCK.
You can use a USB flash drive & the camera connection kit. I do it a lot.
Plug the USB flash drive into your computer & create a new folder titled DCIM. Then put your movie/photo files into the folder. The files must have a filename with exactly 8 characters long (no spaces) plus the file extension (i.e., my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg).
Now plug the flash drive into the iPad using the camera connection kit. Open the Photos app, the movie/photo files should appear & you can import. (You can not export using the camera connection kit.)
Cheers, Tom 😉
This does nothing to answer the OP's question! He wants to export from the iPad to a memory stick, not import.
i've sucessfully downloaded lots of album photos from a USB stick to my iPad, using your examples, and now it's now stopped working. I first used your example my-movie.mov; DSCN0164.jpg which failed after a few downloads. I then used another of your methods (seen elsewhere) where the DSCN0164 part is dropped, as the example below. Now nothing works, I've tried erasing the USB stick and re-installing the data but no use. Have you any ideas to help me?
Have you tried giving your device a reboot? Hold down the sleep and home keys, past when you see the red power down slider and until you see the silver apple. Let it reboot and try again.
Sometimes rebooting clears glitches, and it won't hurt any of the data on your device.
Many thanks for your reply - and it worked, so maybe I should do a re-boot each time I'm ready to download the next batch of photos.
