My iPod touch was stolen. Does anyone know if there is a way to track it?

Is there a way to track a stolen iPod touch?

iPod touch (3rd generation), iOS 4.3.3

Well, yes and no.

Find My Phone sorta kinda works, but its main short coming is positional accuracy. Comparing my 4th gen iPod and my iPhone 4, FMP has been as much as 1/4 of a mile different. This is with both devices sitting next to each other. In fact, they were in physical contact with each other.....

Not what I would call stellar performance, and almost if not entirely worth less for any real world tracking exercise.

You only real options are to file a police report and then file a claim against either your home owner's or automobile insurance....

But the bottom line is, your iPod is long gone....

This is asked and answered many times every day. The forum search bar is on the right side of this page.

You cannot. UNLESS you set up find my ipod BEFORE it was stolen AND it is on AND it is connected to wi-fi AND it has not been restored by the thief. THEN you may be able to track it to an approximate street address using icloud/find my ipod.

Otherwise there is no way at all to track it.

Report it to the police and change your passwords.

Going to icloud.com or using the FindMyiPhone app on another device is the only way to possibly track it. Apple will do nothing.

Hi (From UK)

My son had his Ipod touch stolen on Friday night. I have changed the password and am tracing on icloud but no show yet. When you say they track it, who does? Is this done via itunes? Any help would be greatly appreciated as my son is gutted.

Cheers

I have checked icloud with no joy! I have even sent messages and cleared date, just in case. As each ipod has a unique serial number can it be tracked by itunes?

No, As I siad in my first reply Apple wil not help

I assume the thief may try and create a new itunes account, surely apple/itunes would have my account details recorded against that device and therefore should be able to notify?
