how do I delete sites that I have visited on my mac book air
I have below my toolbar a line of sites that I have visited,how do I delete them all, I am new to mac and getting frustrated

Are these maybe Bookmarks?
In Safari's menu>Bookmarks>Show all Bookmarks, expand as needed, highlight one or many, choose Delete key.
What browser are you using? You may be referring to browser tabs. If you are, there should be an X on the tab that you can click to delete the tab.
You may also be able under Tools, to select Clear Recent History.
