How do I update my software for my phone?

Base on our IOS description you have the latest update which is 5.1.

No problem, just make sure you do a backup first, so you don't lose anything.

If you have new pics and texts those won't be included in the backup from last month. I would do another backup of your phone.

also if you have a lot of pics its good to import them over to your laptop just as you would a digital camera take a look at the link http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4083

Be sure to back up your contacts before you update your phone or you lose them. If you are not syncing them to a supported program with iTunes (like Outlook or mac Address Book), use an app like My Contacts Backup (which will create a backup as an attachment to an email that you send to yourself, and can later be used to import your contacts again if necessary).

If you followed the steps on the link then you should be good. You can also check on the backup it will have today's date and time of the backup, if you see that then go ahead with the update.

Yea once your phone updates, it'll be like a new phone then you go to the settings then it gives you the option to set up the phone as new or from a backup. choose backup, then plug your phone to iTunes and then select the backup you did from earlier. Make sure that everything is complete before you unplugged it from your laptop.
