I used to own a blackberry, whereby new email messages would be delivered automatically. With the iPhone, unless I leave the phone over ought, or hit update/refresh, I don't get new emails.
It's not a huge issue, but it would be nice to receive emails as they come in, rather than"look" for them.
Any suggestions?

What account are you using? Do you have the account set to push?

I have about 5 email accounts. The ones such as exchange and icloud are shown as push.
The other email accounts are shown as fetch. If I click advanced, it only gives me the choice of fetch or manual.
