My Computer freezes when ipod classic is connected

I can look at my ipod classic and navigate through the menu, but when I connect it to any computer, it freezes that computer and I have to disconnect it and restart the computer. Any suggestions?.

Which version of iTunes are you using?
What is the iPod software version, as shown in the iTunes summary page?
Which model of iPod Classic are you using?
