Q: Can I use my iTunes Match account abroad

Hello,

I have a French iTunes account.

Some weeks ago, I have subscribed iTunes match with my French account. I currently live in France, but I've just been informed that I will have to go to live to India.

I know that iTunes has not yet the agreements to work in India but will I be able to continue to use my French account (I will keep having a French bank account).

Regards

iTunes Match, Mac OS X (10.7.3), use iTunes match abroad.

    No.

Here is the information from the Terms and Conditions for iTunes France:

"Le Service n'est disponible qu'en France. Vous vous engagez à ne pas utiliser ni tenter d’utiliser le Service en dehors de ce pays. iTunes pourra utiliser certaines technologies dans le but de vérifier votre respect de cet engagement."

Anything you want to listen to in India, you better take it with you.

If you suscribe to Itunes Match, you won't be able to change the store when you will be in India. Wait and suscribe only when you get there:

There are things that are not dicussed here in the Forums as it is a violation of TOS. You could look on the Internet for more detailed info.

As ed2345 noted it is a violation of the  iTS TOS to access the account from outside the iTS country that you subscribe. It is not a violation to use the purchases already made. Best bet is to keep your current French iTS.

If you want an India iTS account then set up a new account.

Thanks for answer, I've checked your link and its related to "ITUNES STORE, MAC APP STORE, APP STORE ET IBOOKSTORE" but not to iTunes Match.

Furthermore, I've suvscribed iTunes match to acces music not purchased on the apple store but all my old CD's I have loaded to iTunes.

    Difficult case ....

    Boudard,

The whole point of iTunes Match is to use copies from the iTunes Store (when possible) instead of uploading your own copies.  That is exactly what makes it different from just a plain cloud backup service.  So do not assume that the iTunes Store Conditions do not apply to Match.

I do recommend that you get everything backed up before you leave, and also take everything with you that you want.

That will minimize your exposure to any rude surprises about the availability of Match overseas.  As Mike noted, any files already on your computer - be they ripped, purchased, or downloaded from Match - will work anywhere.

As for the iTunes India store, it is very limited, and does not have songs at all.  See details here.
