Moving from Google calendar to iCal

Is there a tutorial for migrating my iCal calendar syncing with Google calendar to iCal backed to iCloud? Is it better than working with Google Calendar or should I stay with what I have?

Hi Fred,

Questions:

Are you using a Mac or just an iPad?

If you don't have a mac then you aren't using iCal, you are using the Calendars.app which is part of iOS. You'll want to re-post your question in the iPad forum: https://discussions.apple.com/community/ipad?categoryID=267

Not that I'm aware of but if you have a Mac we can tell you how to do it should you decide you want to. Its a quick process.

If you already have your calendars in Google calendars, I don't see a huge advantage in moving your calendars to iCloud beyond having all your information stored in one service (iCloud) as opposed to multiple services (iCloud and Google). But generally I'd say: If its not broken, don't try to fix it.

Hope that helps.

Thanks much, Madison. Actually, I've invested quite a bit to migrate my family entirely to an Apple platform at home. So I use an iMac, iPads (one for grandma, one for me), an iPhone for me, and a MBA for my daughter.

I can't seem to get iCal to sync with my iPad, and most of all I would also like to share my Google calendar on grandma's iPad and vice versa. I've set up our respective Google calendars so their visible to one another in Safari, but we prefer the iOS calendar app on the iPad. Other subscriptison calendars like US holidays and the SF Giants schedule work just fine. But how do we "subscribe" in our iPad calendar apps to one another's Google calendars? None of the addresses from Google seem recognizable by our iPads.

I don't use Google calendars all that much myself but if you've gone into each person's Google calendar and "shared" that calendar to everyone else you should be able to sync that shared calendar down to your iOS device from Google's website: https://www.google.com/calendar/iphoneselect.

If sharing isn't working so well for you with Google then perhaps moving all your calendars to iCloud would be beneficial assuming all your devices are iCloud compatible: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4759

If you decide to go that route let us know.
