best to my knowledge Apple hasn't offer a SDK for iM ... yet.

'we' are asking for the option to add 3rd party titles, effects, themes, (trailers) for quite a while.

wouldn't it be nice, to get a 'Wedding Theme', with a bell-transition, a romantic filter and a title with flying doves for 2.99 in the AppStore ...? Themes for Basketball, Baby-shower, Kiddie's Birthday Party, Trip thru Europe, Funeral (=a bit morbid, but I read often threads about making 'this was her/his life'-projects), Men's Best Friend, My Car/Bike/Yacht .... ? 😁

and, btw no trivial project ... have you ever had your hands on Motion5?

it offers to create templates (for use in FCPX), incl. drop-zones.

but not as complex as the Trailers in iMovie

I created my own transitions, titles and title-plates with M5 and for use in FCPX.-

don't hesitate to make an enhancement suggestion to Apple:

If you watch the MacBreak podcast, look for the episodes with Mark Spencer. He is great at Motion. He has created a training series on Motion, available here. Here is one of them. http://www.rippletraining.com/categories/final-cut-studio-courses/motion-trainin g/motion-5-fast-forward.html

Most of the MacBreak episodes are also available on YouTube. I found a website that links to the Motion episodes of MacBreak Studio. http://www.applemotion.net/macbreak-studio/
