EXPORTING TO WORD

I HAVE A 300 PAGE DOCUMENT, IN PAGES. WHEN I TRY TO CONVERT TO WORD, I GET A MESSAGE SAYING THAT IT CAN'T BE OPENED BECAUSE THE FILE MAY BE CORRUPT. I THINK THIS MIGHT BE BECAUSE THERE ARE DANGLING IMAGES THAT I IMPORTED SEVERAL TIMES BECAUSE I THOUGHT THEY HAD DISAPPEARED. THE WORD FILE SHOWS ONE OF THEM ON THE FIRST PAGE, WHERE IT SHOULDN'T BE, AND WHEN I CONVERTED THE DOCUMENT TO RTF, THERE ARE A BUNCH OF THEM AT THE END OF THE DOCUMENT. THE WORD MESSAGE SAYS TO OPEN WITH TEXT CONVERTOR, BUT I CANNOT FIND IT. ANY SUGGESTIONS? THANK YOU.

Please don't type with the caps lock down. It is the equivalent of shouting.

Did you get any warning when exporting to Word .doc from within Pages?

The message in Word (for Mac or PC) does it say "Text Convertor", "TextConvertor", "Text Converter" or TextConverter"?

I can only find these:

http://www.sttmedia.com/textconverter

Can you give us the exact message please.

So was the document .pages or .doc?

Was Word on Mac or PC, if so what version?

Has Pages been able to open the converted version?

Have you searched for "Text Recovery Converter" on your computer? Whatever that is, you haven't said.

I guess I'm not making myself clear. I have a Pages document that I would like to convert to Word on my MacBook pro. When I export the Pages document, it appears on my desktop as a .doc. But when I try to open it I get the message "Word was unable to open this document" etc. I can see the title page in the desktop icon and there are two images that don't belong there. What I would like to do is to be able to see them in my Pages document so I can delete them, because I think that is the problem. I can't see them in 'show invisibles'

It isn't Hide Layout it sould be Show Layout so you can see where everything is.

You should have used styles. It isn't too late to create and apply the styles, but surely you have the Pages version, so what is it that you have to recreate?

If you needed the ultimate document to be a .doc file, creating it in Pages was not a good idea.

Pages is not Word.

Word kept making my manuscript disappear and I would have to go to Time Machine or recovered files to get it back. That's why I tried Pages, which, for that aspect, has been reliable. When this goes to the editor, I think it will have to be in Word, so I will have to go back and do everything by hand. Apple swears it is a cinch to create Word documents from Pages..... This is the first time I have tried Pages. Is Styles part of Word?

Before you do that:

  1. create a copy of your Pages document
  2. remove all images from the copy
  3. Export the copy from a Pages format to a Word format
  4. Test if the Word version now opens OK in Word.
  5. If so, add the images back to the Word version and send to your editor.

Cheers.

This is how I solved the problem. I made a duplicate and copied the entire document, including the images. I then pasted this into a blank Word document. This worked for a while but, during autorecovery, Word couldn't save the manuscript. Then I decided to break it up into three parts, which I did in a Pages duplicate. The original was 300 MB, which may be more than Word can handle, Idon't know. I pasted the three parts into three separate word documents. This seems to be working.
