Sorry, but there's nothing in that file. All it is is a Nikon Photo index file. All that's there is an idex of photos taken by the camera, no actual photos or any other data. If that's all that's on the card, well then, there is no data on the card.

That typically happens when you receive a file that does not have an extension, so the OS doesn't know what it is. Select the file and choose File -> Get Info in the finder. What is shown in the Name & Extension field? If there is no extension, that's the problem. You would need to add an extension, though the problem is knowing what extension to add.

One thing you could try is to drop one of the files on to the vlc video player. If the file is truely a video file then odds are vlc will figure that out and be able to play it. It also has a menu to tell you info about the file so you could figure out what kind of file it actually is.

In the case of windows .wmv files you should add Flip4Mac. That would allow you to play those with QuickTime.

Similarly add Perian to add more power to QuickTime so that it too could possibly handle those files like vlc.

Hey wjosten,

I saw what you did for Adie93 and hope you'll be interested in helping my sister save the video of her wedding.

The file is appears as ORDER.NJB, 17 bytes and dated correctly on the SD card. When I followed your instructions we found the error below.

Any advice whatsoever would be a tremendous consolation to my obviously distraught sister -even if it's just to tell her not to pay someone $500 to dig up a file that will never work.

Thank you,

Jessica

This is not really related to the topic you've replied to, so this isn't the best place to ask your question. You need to start your own post in a forum appropriate for the topic (for example, the OS X Mountain Lion forum might be appropriate if your Mac is running Mountain Lion, aka OS X 10.8). You will also need to provide information about what kind of camera was used to take the video, and what has been done with the SD card since the video was taken.

One thing I can say: that ORDER.NJB file is not a video file of any kind. It contains an index of the images on the card, and is not meant to be opened by the user.

Hello.

I have exactly the same problem: A file with the extension .psmp. I tried your advice concerning VLC, which unfortunately does not work.

Also the path via Terminal does not spit out any useful file information… It is correct to type file and a space, then drag the file in the window and hit enter, correct? That just gives me the output of the filename/location. Do you maybe have another idea? Thank you.
