Did you check if the microphone is set to mute?

If you are using a case around the iPad, is it covering the microphone?

Yes checked that , I used to work ok but just stopped for no reason
Did you already reset your iPad by holding the sleep and home button for about 10sec, until the Apple logo comes back again? You will not lose data, but it can clear some glitches.
If this does not work, try to set it up again as new device:
