Upgrade req'd when other devices support iCloud?

Hi guys, i have old MacBook with os 10.6.8 which doesn't support iCloud. I have ipad3 and iPhone 4s with ios5 that supports iCloud. Is there a way I can upgrade by sharing necessary software rather than buy off app store for MacBook by itself? You would think that one could 'share' the iCloud feature among a few devices if you bought the new iPhone and iPad??? Thanks,
