I have installed 10.8.2 Mountain Lion since two days on my iMac 24" 2,8 GHz, 4GB Ram, (24" Mid 2007) and I have performed an installation over the fresh Lion installation of some months ago.

I'm struggling about Contacts/Address book database as today I have discovered that some data modification were NOT stored at all.

In the previous version it was possible to modify data in the "note" without modifying the entire record. Changing other data was necessary (of course) to push the Modify button.

Now with 7.1 Contacts/Address book i can edit as before my data in the note field, but they are not stored; completely UNRELIABLE.

If the program let me edit the data, then this data must be saved.

(I'm not using iCloud).

any suggestion?

I have this problem in 10.8.2 on a mbp 2010. Don't know how long I've had the problem but noticed it when I needed to rely on some important information that I had previously added in the Note section of a contact. When I closed the app and relaunched it, the information was no longer there. It doesn't happen all the time so its frustrating and I don't know if I can rely on this app. I don't sync contacts across multiple devices or on the cloud. I just keep things simple and use it locally on my mbp.

Here's a couple of instances that confirms the problem along with a WORKAROUND:

Apple care support - advisor was able to replicate the problem and said he would report it. Kudos to the advisor for this workaround: after you edit a note of a contact, click on another contact, then click in the note area of that contact before you close the application. This seems to work most of the time.

Best Buy - salesperson was able to replicate the problem on a 15" mbp retina osx 10.8.2. The desktops, mbp's and mba's with osx 10.7.x did not seem to have the problem. (Interestingly, when the salesperson repeated this a few times, the Contacts icon disappeared from the dock and he had to go search for it and drag it back to the dock.)

I have the same issue.

I will have to try the weird workaround. But, really apple? We shouldn't have to do that. Can we get this fixed in the next update?

Also when I downloaded LION it didn't download the Address Book app. that seems odd to me. Does anyone know where I can download the Address Book app by itself? It doesn't seem to be on the App Store.

Randy, an Apple advisor told me if you click on edit, then update your Contacts note, then save, that supposedly works. However, the same Apple advisor told me this is still a bug since the Contacts app should NOT allow you to make changes unless it saves the data, or at least prompt you to save. I'm thinking that Apple has not fixed this because the app has become too complicated in the sense that it interacts with other apps, cloud, etc. I've given up on Contacts and moved everything to Outlook.

I spent 5 hours with tech support. Reset iCloud settings, sent test contacts to iCloud, and nothing. Basic problem, is I get a text from someone, I save as new contact, and it's not saved in contacts. Go back to message app, and it's now labeled as me new contact name, go back to contacts app, and nothing. Very frustrating!!! Just did a full reinstall from backup, and same thing. Ahhh!!!! I was told a senior software tech would contact me, and it's been a week, and nothing. I think its a bug that cannot be fixed. Getting tired. I called today, and was told to go to the Apple Store Genius Bar for help. Getting tired again!!!!
