When MobileMe ends what can I do with my iWeb sites?

I created quite a lot of sites with iWeb and published them to MobileMe.

Now that MM is coming to an end, how can I transfer them to a reliable hosting service?

Is it true that Apple won't provide a new server?

Has anyone experienced a good solution?

Thanks,

Giovanni

It is correct that Apple are NOT providing a new server. iCloud is the replacement, but there will not be any website hosting available, so you will have to find alternative hosting if you want to keep your sites up and running.

There are lots of good alternatives from GoDaddy to HostExcellence and several others.

Yes, I actually know the difference between the two and was trying to answer the question that although iCloud has replaced MobileMe, it will not be a website host. I use HostExcellence to host my own websites.

I still do use iWeb and will continue to use it as long as it works for me - for the most part though I have switched to Flux and have just recently upgraded to Flux 4.

I think the real question is... Will iWeb continue to be updated and workable on future versions of the Mac OS. 09 was a long time ago.

Apple is really screwing up with their users. Final Cut X is the worst case. You can't open Final Cut 7 files so my hundreds of project will be useless if Final Cut 7 becomes unusable on Mountain Lion or further down the line.

Same with iWeb. If they abandon the program, many of us will be screwed.

Apple used to embody a "Power to the People" philosophy. They are slowing becoming a "You have to do it our way" corporation.

I'm annoyed.

Here is a partial transcript of a LiveChat I had with Apple Support - hope it helps.

NJ: I have already left MobileMe for iCloud. Need to know how to transfer the iWeb-created (on my MacBook Pro) website(s) to a new host, assuming that "hosting" will disappear MobileMe.

Apple: I can certainly understand wanting to ensure your website is safe and would be happy to provide you with the information that I have here. iCloud does not have hosting space. You will need to obtain a new website host. For 3rd party options similar to iWeb publishing, I recommend using the search string 'website hosting' in a search engine. It comes up with options such GoDaddy, HostGator, and Yahoo.
I always advise backing up your domain file on your Mac: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1105 and then you would move the website to the new host using the steps here: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4686 .

NJ: Will formatting be lost? Will I still use iWeb to edit/create websites? or do I have to re-create everything??

Apple: The website can continue to be published to your new host through iWeb. I apologize but the iWeb Application isn't my area of expertise, but for the best support concerning moving your website from MobileMe to the new host is going to be iApps. They will be able to tell you about any formatting when publishing to your new host. No, you will not need to recreate the whole website.
