i jus purchsed an iphone 3g the other day n im tryin to update it on itunes on my windows computer it supposivly completed the update but restore the software or firmware it keeps sayin theres an erroe that occured i cant even turn it on to use the phone. ive tried everything from restarting my computer to updating itunes. HELP??? PLEASE

http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1275 for MSconfig and to turn off all 3rd party services and startup items execpt any related to Apple.
If it is error 1015 it is probably a jailbroken phone or you have used similar software with your computer at one time. Google the error message for help.

If it is a 3G it is certainly not brand new.

New in the box from an authorized Apple dealer? Or is this an iPhone 3GS instead of a 3G? Or new in the box from other site? If from a gray market site it could indeed have been resealed and is jailbroken out of the box.
Either way you should be able to get the help you need from Google.
That error message has nothing to do with antivirus software.
its 3g n i bought it off amazon i been usin google n tryin to use the apple help n none of it is helping i dont understand some of it though like security settings
Try it on a different computer, if you get the same result the phone is definitely jailbroken (and Amazon is not an authorized site), if not the problem is with a setting on your computer.
i m facing same problem, i tried to scyncronized with the pc, but it come out to its original features. everything gone.
