cinema display 24" Not Working

Having the exact same issue, thinking it may be a software update that caused it.

I don't think it's the monitors though. I have 2 of the 24" led monitors and both are doing the same thing.

Just found a 3rd 24" in my house and that is also having the same issues.

I am having exactly the same issue: MacBook pro, cinema display24'', recently updated to Lion. Please help !!

I am having exactly the same issue. Came home after some time away, plugged in my laptop and neither the USB nor the display are working, but I'm getting power to the computer.

Anyone figure it out yet?

I am having the same problem, but only when I try to connect my MacBook Pro (i7, 2010) to the LED Cinema Display 24". I also have a MacBook Air 11", and when I connect it to the display it works fine. So it's not that the Cinema Display is faulty.

The odd thing, however, is that I can connect the MBP to a HDTV without any problems. So it can't really be something wrong with the MBP, either.

It is just the combination MacBook Pro + Cinema display that doesn't work.

All other combinations work:

MacBook Air + Cinema Display = fine

MacBook Pro + HDTV = fine

(MacBook Air + HDTV = also fine)

The setup (MBP + Cinema Display) has worked fine for years. This issue only started a few weeks ago. I can't say if it started in connection to a specific software update of any kind or not, but I'm pretty sure it didn't.

Yesterday I even went so far as to do a clean install of Lion, but that did not work either.

If nothing else, I sincerely hope this issue goes away with Mountain Lion.

So I was able to get my 24" display to work with my 15" MacBook Pro (2009 model) after I pulled the power cord out just a little on the back of the display (the round disk part is no longer flush with the back of the monitor). Prior to messing with the power cord, the 15" MacBook was detecting a 640 x 480 display but nothing was actually being displayed and the USB still wasn't working.

So far my 13" MacBook (2011 model running Leopard) will not work ...

I am reluctant to update the Firmware on either machine.

I've never had any problems with either machine and this monitor. And both of the machines work with my 27" Cinema display.

Same problem here. Woke up and now the display won't display anything and the USB-hub is dead. Only the magsafe is working. Tried it on another MBP and also another white MB. Same problem. I sometimes get a blue screen flash on the computer (not the display) indicating that the screen is recognized but I can't find it in system info or elsewhere. Has anyone got a solution to this problem?

Same problem here. About a week after updating my 15" MacBook Pro (mid-2010, i7) to Lion, it no longer recognizes my 24" Apple LED Cinema Display. This problem did not occur right away after the Lion upgrade. My MBP and Cinema Display were working in tandem as recently as last weekend. A few days ago I applied several updates, including a Security Update and possibly an EFI firmware flash. Starting tonight when I came home from work, there's no picture on my external display. When I connect the Mini DisplayPort connector, the built-in display on my MBP flashes blue briefly—as if it can *maybe* see an external display—but the picture never kicks in on the Cinema Display. However, the integrated power adaptor charges my MBP and the USB hub is functional.

Nothing instructive appears in any of the system logs. I thought maybe there might be some reporting when the screen flashes blue (when disconnecting/reconnecting the display) but there's no information.

I've tried rebooting, shutting down, booting from a Snow Leopard Restore DVD, and resetting the SMC. Nothing makes a difference.

Ugh. This monitor worked fine for nearly two years when I was on Snow Leopard.

I tested the monitor with a different device, a 13" MacBook Pro from 2011, which is also running Lion. When I insert the Mini DisplayPort connector, the 13" MBP reacts as if there's an external display. The menu and dock disappear, presumably moved over to the external monitor. It's a slightly different reaction than the 15" MBP, but the problem remains: there's still no picture on my 24" LED Cinema Display.

This is disappointing. I've had this monitor for just under two years. I only use it on weekends, so it doesn't have a lot of hours on it. And now it's dead. On the same desk, I have a 22" CRT made by NEC in 1994. It still runs after almost 18 years.

Oh well. I'm bringing it into an Apple Store to have it serviced.

I've too have had this issue on and off. What happened when you brought your display to the Apple Store? Did they have a fix?

The Apple Store tried replacing the power supply and logic board, but the issue persisted. Their next recommendation was to replace the LCD component, which would cost nearly $700 and come with only a 90-day warranty. I cut my losses and declined the repair.

I'm having the same issue. No point in spending another $700+ on a part that hasn't been proven to be reliable.

I've found that plugging the Cinema Display to the MacBook Pro whilst the lid is open the Cinema Display works. Once it's 'alive', close the MacBook lid and the Cinema Display works like it should.

I have exactly this problem with my MacBook Pro13" on OSX 10.5.8 and my 24" display.

Following grandifolian(thanks) I (1) slept the MacBook (2) disconnected two display connectors - and then both MacBook and dispaly wake up together.

Just the once ... won't try this again till I have to!
