New Mac user here, so forgive me if this is super simpe. Did not find anything while googling it. When I highlight and drag a contact to a Group, it duplicates it in my contact folder. Why is this, and is there any way to not duplicate each contact card?

There is only one copy of each contact card. They will all appear in "all contacts" even if they are a member of a group. When you drag a card to a group, it just makes a pointer to that card. Clicking on the group will display it's members.
Thanks. I saw that, but I am wondering why in my "all contacts" list, it shows a doudble listing of all those I added to a group?
Do you have iCloud enabled? Are the groups under On My Mac and not iCloud? Or do you have other accounts enabled?
The group is under iCloud. I did not choose this, it just automatically set it up there.
Did you want iCloud enabled? Do you also have On My Mac in AB? Where do the contacts show: in On My Mac or iCloud?
I think the issue is that when I click on "all contacts" that I see double contacts, one for "All on My Mac" and one for the iCloud Group that I added it to. Just wondering why it would show a duplicate, and not just one card?
Depending on where the groups and contacts are located. If all the contacts are in iCloud and the groups are actually under the local On MyMac contacts, when you drag a contact to the group, it is also copying to the local contacts since that's where the groups are located.
If you continue to use iCloud, go to system preferences, open the iCloud icon and sign out. Select to delete contacts from the computer.
Then sign back into iCloud and contacts and groups should merge. You should only have iCloud contacts now and On My Mac should not show.
Unless you are using local contacts to sync to something else, it's not needed.
You should also make sure you have a backup of your contacts such as a TM backup. If, archive your AB before doing any changes in case something goes wrong.
