MacBook Air External Display Issues

Hi,

I have tried two different mini displayport to HDMI adapters to connect my macbook air to my samsung lcd tv and i have the same two issues:

the resoluion options seem limited and the image quality is poor. I can survive with one of the resolutions i am offered, but the image issues are giving me headaches. Basically, the fonts look blurry with a halo-like effect around the words. Any advice on how to deal with this?
