cac card reader

Need some help from the fantastic Apple Community.

I am a slave to a PC laptop for work as a DoD contractor. I have an ActivCard CaC Card reader issued by work and have been unable to get to work on my Latest Snow Leopard OS (10.6.8).

This is what I do know:

i. The card reader is seen by the iMac in the Systems Profiler, USB Keyboard hub.

ii. However, when I pull up the Keychain app., and insert the CaC card nothing appears in the keychain.

iii. IT at my office had to load the CaC card reader software onto the PC.

Thus my question(s):

i. Do I need to reflash the firmware on the reader (see US Navy Article http://www.dtic.mil/cgi-bin/GetTRDoc?Location=U2&doc=GetTRDoc.pdf&AD=ADA445103)

ii. Is there another more simple way, as the one above seems alittle convaluted.

iii. From the threads I've read, I am lead to believe that the reader driver is part of OS 10.6.8, if it is then it should be able to read the CaC Card.
