Thanks for telling this guy the same exact thing I was saying. He obviously thinks if he asks enough time that the iphone will magically change and it will do what he wants it to do.

Your post was helpful. I'll send apple a feedback suggestion. Maybe someday they implement something that will help me in a future update to iOS. Thanks.

I just wanted to ask once and see if anyone had any suggestions. You want to keep shoving your thoughts in my face. I got it. I don't need you to keep telling me the same thing. If no one has any suggestions then thatd be fine. I don't need you continually repeating yourself. Just leave me alone.

Ok here is one other thing you can do. If it is on AT&T then take out the sim card and then you can use the GPS but will have no 3G which doesn't solve your non-problem. Then when you lose your sim card you will probably come here complaining that apple should have made a way to disable the sim card too. The phone does a lot of things a lot of people like but just because you seem to be the only one that wants it to do something doesn't mean apple will change it.

Why do you have to be so negative? You attempt to give me an idea to try which was appreciated until you had to end the post with the suggestion that by me removing my SIM I'd most definitely lose it and then complain about it here on the forums. What's wrong with you? If you post one more time in this forum it's just proof that you have nothing better to do than crap on other people who are just looking for help on a support forum.

  • KC7GNM Level 4 Level 4

And you prove that you don't want to listen to people that know what they are talking about. You want the phone to do something it was not designed to do even when we tell you it won't do it but you expect the answer to be different. You are a troll and this will be my last post to you because you obviously will not listen. I have tried and tried to tell you what the phone won't do but you just won't accept the answer.

  • mrdude42 Level 1 Level 1

And that's you replying again. I think we all know who the troll is here.

Have you tried temporarily removing your SIM card?

  • gluefish Level 1 Level 1

I know it turns off 3g but at least you can still listen to your music.

You can still turn WiFi on after enabling Airplane mode, it may not be what you are trying to achieve, but if you are in an area with free WiFi, it could be useful. After you have turned on Airplane mode, go to WiFi in the settings and turn on. Hope that helps a little.

Thanks -- this is just what I was looking for! Not all the back and forth about how the original poster wasn't listening to this that and the other guy -- I don't need any of that! -- but the stuff about the SIM card. This is exactly what I wanted to know for when traveling abroad: how to use my phone for the GPS function without having to pay for a phone plan. And now I know, so thanks!

this is a BIG help.  Thanks so much.  I agree with the original poster that having internet access without the phone is a desired feature.  And it's there!  Excellent post.

This may not help if you are trying to bounce between more than one app at a time but have you tried useing the guided access feature. It only allows you to use one app but it disables incoming and out going phone calls as well as texts and emails. You will still recieve them but they will not notify you until you turn off guided access.

I agree this is a cool feature to have. For me a water damaged unactivated iphone that still works for the most part so my kids can play games and leave mine alone. I don't want them to accidently make a 911 call. Since unactivated phones can make emergency calls. I am glad someone finally did post a good solution. I almost stopped reading because the negative comments.

Thank you Gary, this is a great help. I did not realise or know that you can use WiFi in airplane mode! I nearly lost the will to live hearing all the trolling and dummy spitting from KC7GNM, but I am glad to have stumbled across your simple solution!

My mum is on holiday and is worried about additional charges and the network were no help at all other than saying well you'll be charged Xp to recieve or send a text, and £X per minute to make and recieve calls even if you do not answer the calls. She is staying somewhere with WiFi and we can keep in contact via FaceTime and iMessage which is rad, at least now I can put her mind at ease that she will not get any charges whilst she is on holiday!
