original file could not be found

All songs show as matched or uploaded in i tunes match but when trying to play error message says song could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?

I had this problem too. It was due to the fact that I had joined iTunes match and then I deleted my library (thinking I could get my music off the cloud). This is right, although iTunes still tries to play the local song file (rather than from the cloud).

The solution (for me) was the following;

1. Turn off iTunes match.

2. Select all my music and delete them so I have no music in my iTunes library.

3. Turn on iTunes match.

4. Your music should reappear and you can play what you want.

Note: iTunes match downloads any song it plays (no option to turn this off, afaik). Therefore, if you tidy up your library and delete your music in the future, you will get the same issue again.
