From the menu bar click on Safari> Preferences> Security. See if the enable java box is checked.
Go to your applications folder and open Utilities and click on Java preferences and see if under the general tab java is enabled.
hpr3 is right. The new version of Java is not enabled by default.
I've clicked on utilities and i have no such Java preferencer !!!

Then you will need to download it and install it.

Go to the /Applications/Utilities/ folder and double click Java Preferences. The first thing it will tell you is that Java is not installed. You can click the OK button on that same message box to download and install it from Apple's servers.
The problem is that there is no such Java Preferences there !!!
With a default install of Lion, that app should be present.
Java is not part of OS 10.7 Lion. You have to download and install Java, then enable it in Lion.

Yes, but the Java Preferences app IS part of Lion. It's right in the installer.
is there any better solution ?
It's not a quick solution, but you could reinstall Lion to get the Java Preferences back on your Mac. Or, if you have the Lion installer set aside on an external drive, you can do it this way.
1) Right click on the Lion installer and choose "Show Package Contents"
2) Open Contents > SharedSupport and double click the disk image file InstallESD.dmg
3) Open the folder Packages. Double click the installer package JavaEssentials.pkg
4) Follow the usual steps to install an application.
i'll try it 🙂
