can finder show .nrw files from nikon

I have been waiting long for Apple to add the function to see raw-files from Nikon P7000 in Finder. The files are called .NRW (not the usual .NEF). Is there any way to see the files as thumbnails in Finder?

Thank you for looking into the question.

Just to be clear, I use Lightroom and different versions of Photoshop to "develop" the pictures and I have no problem there. It´s just that I sometimes use Finder when I´m trying to look for a specific picture and it would be nice if I could see already in Finder what the pictures looks like, even from my Nikon P7000.

Try moving the Finders preference file out of your Preference folder to the desktop and then restart Finder.

To get to the preference file open Finder and select Go->Go to Folder. then cut and paste the following into the text window:

~/Library/Preferences

And press Go. locate the file com.apple.finder.plist and drag it to the desktop.

Now do

Apple Menu->Force Quit select Finder and press Relaunch.

Now see if the icon previews show up.

Well I'm at a lost then. The file is able to be decoded by the system as evidenced by it opening in Preview, Why Finder doesn't decode it in icon mode is a mystery to me.

One last thing I'd be interested in knowing is what happens if you open the folder in column view?

Also do you have someplace on the net, a dropbox account or similar, that you could upload one of the NRW files. I'd be curious to see what happens on my machine here.

Good news and bad news (and there both the same) it works on my system.

User uploaded file

(nice shots BTW)

It's good news because it shows that the latest OS can decode the files, bad news because with it working here I don't have anything to troubleshoot.

If you want to keep working on this here are my recommendations:

  1. Make sure your system is up-to-date. Run Software Update even if you're sure everyrhing is curent.
  2. Create a new user account on your system, log in as that user and look at these files in Finder. Does the icon show up? This will narrow it down to either something on your system or something in your account.
  3. In the Finder select one of the images and do a Get Info on it it show info similar to:

User uploaded file

Note it is reporintg it as a Nikon raw image from a COOLPIX P7000. what does it show for you?

Post back after you've given those a shot.

I downloaded the 2 NRW photos from your dropbox.

Then in Finder I put a few NEF photos next to the NRW photos:

Finder Icon view: the NRW did not have the icon preview in Finder, the NEF did.

Finder List view: the same

Filnder Column view: the NRW clicked: preview!!

Finder Cover Flow view: the NRW did not have the icon preview in Finder, the NEF did.

MBP 10.7.3.
