My IMac screen keeps changing brightness as I use it, currently the LHS of the screen is not as bright as the right.
Does this sound like an adjustment or a fault?
The sytem is about 6 months old from new.

It's probably the LED backlighting that is failing.
You should call Apple asap to arrange a repair.
If you have Apple Care extended warranty, and live less than 50 miles from a AASP, you can ask for on site repair service and someone will come to your place to do the repair.
I doubt it will help, but you can also try to do a SMC reset

And a PRAM reset
My mid '11 27" iMac developed similar problems when it was less than one year old. None of the home remadies solved the problem. Called AppleCare, they took back my original iMac and sent me another configured identically. No problem with the new iMac - call Apple now.
You're still under warranty, so contact Apple Care or your local Apple Retail Store (book a Genius Bar Appointment) and explain the issue.
