I can't find anything definitive about whether (or when) my iPhone 4 will (or won't) be able to receive the national emergency alerts (WEA) via the Commercial Mobile Alert System (CMAS). Anybody know the answer yet?

This is my question, too. Sprint is supporting WEA via CMAS on android-type devices only. Why are iPhones not capable of participating as well?
that is a good question, remember the iPhone userguide is a free iBooks download and i think the userguide is also in the bookmarks on safari, it may be in there.

AFAIK, no cell phone made before mid-2011 is WEA capable, & Apple has not stated whether the iPhone 4S is or is not.
WEA capability for all iphones is supposed to be included in an upcoming 6.0 ios update.
Emergency alerts are rumored to be in iOS6. But they haven't been listed in the spec sheets since yesterday's release...
Is it in iOS6 by now?
Verizon says that the iPhone 4S and iPhone 5 have it:

AT&T doesn't list iPhones as supporting devices, so either they're just not up to date with their information or it's carrier-specific.

My girlfriend got an alert (for weather) today on her Virgin Mobile USA iPhone 4S, but nothing on my AT&T iPhone 5.

It is a coding issue in the iOS software. I'm having this trouble now on the iOS 7 software. It happens, and it takes a while for a new phone and software to get in compliance.
All cellular mobile devices (cell phones and anything that recieves a phone signal [Like iPads with Cellular]) are required under penalty of law to recieve the alert.
You just responded to a post that is over a year and a half old.
It was required on all phones from April 2012 onward.
Does AT&T iPhone support wireless emergency alerts?
